Whats the difference between a thermal label and a direct thermal label?

Absolutely nothing! The term "thermal label" is often used interchangeably with the term "direct thermal label", and is just a shortening, both are made from a speciality thermal receptive paper material that reacts to heat to show an image. It works much the same as receipt paper or fax paper for those old enough to remember a fax!
